ABOUT THE COMPANY


Golden Valley Wind Farm is a 120MW onshore wind project, situated near to the towns of Bedford, Cookhouse, Adelaide and Somerset East. The facility is located within the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality, within the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, in the Eastern Cape. The project was awarded preferred bidder status under the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPPP) bid window 4 in 2015 and reached financial close in 2018. The facility generates 480GWh per annum supplying an estimated 104,000 households with clean sustainable energy. The project is investing in economic and socioeconomic development initiatives for the betterment of the local communities within 50km radius scale.

About The Bursary


The Golden Valley Wind Farm Bursary is available for various degrees or certificates for students Born/Living/Schooled within 50km from the Golden Valley Wind Farm (Eastern Cape) , encompassing the following communities: Adelaide, Bedford, Cookhouse or Somerset East.

Please make sure your home town falls within one of the communities listed above.

The bursary is for students from previously disadvantaged groups (low-income BBBEE designated applicants), and it covers the full-cost of tertiary studies.

  2. Accommodation & Meals
  3. Living stipends
  4. Book & stationery allowances 

Susscessful applicants will be required to participate in an intense monthly mentorship programme, designed to make sure they are highly employable whne they graduate. They will also receive full wrap-around support in the form of private tutoring, paid for by the sponsor.

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation.

Who Can Apply


Applicants must be: 

  1. South African citizens
  2. Born/Living/Schooled within 50km of the Golden Valley Wind Farm , from the Eastern Cape communities of Adelaide, Bedford, Cookhouse or Somerset East.
  3. In 2023; be studying matric or on a gap-year after matric in 2022/2021/2020
  4. In 2024; be studying for a SAQA-registered tertiary qualification
  5. Belong to a BBBEE racial designated group (Black, Coloured, Indian, etc)
  6. Studying full-time (2024 onwards). 
  7. Studying at any DHET/SAQA-recognized tertiary school/university/college. 
  8. Unemployed (not working full-time in 2024 or during any year while on the bursary),
  9. Students with other bursaries/NSFAS will have to terminate their other funding contracts if they want to accept an offer of this bursary

Have applied to study in 2024 or have already been accepted for registration in 2024. 

Bursaries are offered only for studies leading to SAQA-registered higher certificates, diplomas, degrees or equivalent NQF-rated qualifications. 

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation.

    All Applicants: 

    1. Certified copy of a valid South African identity document 
    2. Recent Official proof of Locality (proof of address, residence affidavit from municipality, place of birth on birth certificate)
    3. Recent certified Parents/Guardian's valid South African ID (or death certificate if deceased)*
    4. Proof of household income (certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians) - Please attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if parent/s are unemployed*
  • All certified documents must be less than 3 months old. 
  • *Where you have multiple documents for 1 submission, please combine/scan them into 1 file that you can upload.

    3. A copy of 2024 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. - Official letter showing you've been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2024*

For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
