ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Konkoonsies II Solar PV Farm is a 86 MW solar PV project. The project is situated near the small town of Pofadder, in the Khai Ma Local Municipality, within the Namakwa District Municipality, in the Northern Cape Province. The project was awarded preferred bidder status under the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPPP) bid window 4 in 2015 and reached financial close in 2018. The project generates 216.5 GWh per annum, generating enough energy to supply an estimated 35,000 homes in South Africa with clean, sustainable electricity. The project is investing in economic and socioeconomic development initiatives for the betterment of the local communities within a 50km radius scale.

About The Bursary

The Konkoonsies II Solar PV Farm Bursary is available for various degrees or certificates for students Born/Living/Schooled within 50km from the Konkoonsies II Solar PV Farm, encompassing the following Northern Cape communities: Pella, Onseepkans, Witbank, Pofadder or Aggeneys.

Please make sure your hometown falls within one of the communities listed above.

The bursary is for students from previously disadvantaged groups (low-income BBBEE designated applicants), and it covers the full cost of tertiary studies. 

This Bursary is for the 2025 academic year. You need to be studying full-time in 2025 to qualify. 

What will the Bursary include?

  • Fees – Registration/Tuition, accommodation, meals, books and stationery;
  • Living stipends;
  • Mentoring and development 
  • Additional study support where regarded appropriate
  • Laptop provided for study purposes.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in an intense monthly mentorship programme, designed to make sure they are highly employable when they graduate. They will also receive full wrap-around support in the form of private tutoring, paid for by the sponsor.

Any applicant or awardee later revealed to not be studying full-time or having paid employment; will have their bursary contract/offer terminated and required to refund all benefits paid to them by the bursary. 

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation. 

 

Who Can Apply

The bursary programme will be aimed at candidates who meet the following criteria:

  1. South African citizens. 
  2. Born/Living/Schooled within 50km of the 2024 Konkoonsies II Solar PV Farm Bursary, from Northen Cape communities of Pella, Onseepkans, Witbank, Pofadder or Aggeneys
  3. Belong to a BBBEE racial designated group (Black, Coloured, Indian, etc)
  4. This opportunity IS NOT OPEN TO Honours/Masters/Doctoral students.
  5. UNEMPLOYED and pursuing a FULL-TIME qualification at any DHET/CHE registered tertiary Institution, in 2025 
    • For the following qualification levels: Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree.
    • In 2024; be studying matric or on a gap year after matric in 2023/2022/2021
    • In 2025; be studying for a SAQA-registered tertiary qualification
  6. Pursuing their qualification level for the first time (i.e. not repeating a degree year, etc)   
  7. Haven't failed more than 2 subjects during their current enrolment (which also did not delay their expected qualification completion timeline). 
  8. Depending on the application progress: candidates may be required to undergo screening, shortlisting, interview, and psychometric assessments.

Have applied to study in 2025 or have already been accepted for registration in 2025. 

Bursaries are offered only for studies leading to SAQA-registered higher certificates, diplomas, degrees or equivalent NQF-rated qualifications. 

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation.

    • All Applicants:

    1. Certified Official proof of Locality (proof of address, affidavit of residence from municipality, or place of birth on birth certificate)
    2. A 1-2 page statement clearly setting out why you have chosen your field of study, how you intend to use it after graduation and why/how it will benefit the SPONSOR to fund your studies. Also, explain any missing documents you couldn’t submit on time. [*]
    3. A (2-page max) comprehensive CV of your educational history. Also include any skills, leadership and work experience [*]
    4. Certified copy of your valid South African identity document
    5. Certified Parents/Guardian RSA ID (or non-SA Passport) or Death Certificate (or death certificate if deceased) [*]
    6. Certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians (Company registration documents if Self Employed) - Please attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if guardian/s are unemployed [*] 
    7. One letter of recommendation from an individual who can speak to your personal character and/or your academic performance. This person should not be a relative or friend. Please include their email and phone details.

     

    Scholar in Matric (or gap-year after matric)

    1. Certified Grade 11 Report final year-end report (with official school stamp)
    2. Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)
    3. Official Grade 12 latest (Term 2) school report- (stamped) - With official school stamp

     

    Current Tertiary Student (Undergrad/Honours/Masters enrolled in 2024)

    1. Certified Full Tertiary Academic Records (for all years of tertiary study, even if at multiple institutions) [*] [or police affidavit stating why the student was not schooling]
    2. Certified copy of latest/June 2024 Official Academic Transcripts (or official institution report) [or police affidavit stating why you were not schooling]
    3. Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)

For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
